Best Overall Project, Landscape Design, Landscape Installation - Single Family Residential

With the reflection of the ocean and mountains on the house, the seamless balance of nature and living space sway together in the breeze. This ocean-front home has no-sill walk out patios, and outdoor reflecting ponds to mirror the indoor swimming pool, creating an endless effect as you look out on the ocean vista. Inspired by the famous Dutch garden designer Piet Oudolf, this perennial-heavy planting was carefully considered to create colourful palettes through all seasons. The movement and texture of the gardens were intentionally designed to juxtapose the contemporary architectural elements of this 'Glass House By the Sea'.

The tiered infinity pools also provide stunning views of Burrard Inlet, making them a perfect spot for relaxation and contemplation.

In addition to the pools, the house boasts immaculate gardens designed by renowned landscape designer Cornelia Hahn Oberlander. The 1.18-acre lot includes a large pond, reflecting pools, and a guest studio surrounded by lush greenery.

West Coast Modern is a stunning residential installation situated in the UBC Endowment Lands. This project was designed to blend into the neighborhood, while also incorporating sustainable and environmentally-friendly elements. At West Coast Modern, utilizing natural and locally sourced materials was important. The entrance sign and parts of the facade were constructed using Corten steel.

Additionally, custom designed bluestone pathways with geometric shapes were installed to access the property, further emphasizing attention to detail in design. Apart from the visual appeal, sustainability was a crucial factor. The use of permeable materials such as Romex and installation of Bee Turf were important elements.

Living Art By The Ocean

Living Art By The Ocean

Great Canadian Landscaping Company

Landscape Installation - Single Family Residential

Living Art by the Ocean was a project inspired by the beauty of nature and its ability to captivate us. Our vision was to create a piece of living art that not only served a practical purpose, but also acted as a piece of art for everyone to enjoy passing by along this oceanfront property. The end result was a stunning work of living art that blended seamlessly into its environment.

The focus of this project was to hide the concrete block wall, used as the main structure for the pool and patio above. By using the MSE engineered wall system, we were able to disguise the wall and provide a space to plant our sedums.

Landscape Installation - Single Family Residential

We aimed to create a calm native forest canopy amidst the concrete jungle and linearity of the house. A challenge for this project was adapting the grading and drainage of the site, while ensuring that the non-irrigated plants are able to survive the changing climatic conditions. Long-lasting materials were used in this garden, providing customer satisfaction and sustainability. This deliberate choice minimizes the need for frequent alterations and repairs, ensuring enduring beauty and functionality.

Unique Special Feature, Landscape Installation - Single Family Residential

When we were called to the Mill Street project by our colleague in design, Shan Bodie, it was nothing short of an urgent need for a solution. The daunting challenge: a towering 9ft concrete retaining wall looming just 12ft from the backdoor.

Our solution was creative and aesthetic. We crafted a cascading water-wall feature, concealing the concrete wall, while camouflaging the concrete with the warmth of Brazilian IPE. A stunning glass-covered pergola was incorporated to a trex deck, with a relaxing hot tub adjacent to the lush turf, and expansive play zone for the little ones; this is truly outdoor living at its finest.

Unique Special Feature

No stone was left unturned. The yard was a blank canvas and hadn't been landscaped, the house had undergone a beautiful renovation. The clients were ready for a new chapter that included outdoor living space. With 3 kids and fun parents the goal was to craft a sanctuary where the little ones could flourish and the adults could savour the serenity. The front and side yards demanded a substantial transformation as well. The emphasis in the front was on infusing natural elements into the landscape - a seamless integration of dry stack basalt and flamed basalt treads, crowned with a cozy flamed limestone patio, to lend a genuine West Coast charm.

The star of the backyard was a magnificent glass-covered pergola, sheltering the living area from the elements. A sunken hot tub for relaxation on the trex deck. The addition of artificial grass provided an all-weather playground for the kids, ensuring that neither wet nor muddy feet would find their way into the pristine interiors.

Landscape Installation - Single Family Residential

Relocating from Ontario, the clients were accustomed to the high end outdoor living lifestyle and moving into a duplex with a dated DIY outdoor space was an adjustment the clients did not want to make. Needing a complete overhaul with limited square footage, we embarked on a mission to maximize every inch. The clients' vision was clear: they yearned for a touch of verdant tranquility, a sense of privacy, and an ambiance that felt naturally inviting. To meet their desires, we designed a captivating outdoor haven, crowned by a splendid custom Douglas Fir pergola, its glass canopy creating an elegant shelter.

The outdoor living zone was spaced from the house by an elegant path made of square cut black tusk basalt pavers and flanked by well designed garden beds and custom designed aluminum laser cut screens bordered by sained cedar posts.

Landscape Installation - Single Family Residential

The intention was to create an interesting space for the client in front of the garage with muted grasses, seasonal bulbs, subtle perennials and textural evergreens. We wanted to challenge the notion that front gardens are invariably a spectacle for the passerby, whereby the homeowner can enjoy glimpses of seasonal beauty, by focusing displays in prominent areas for viewing. We wanted to create different rhythm’s using tall grasses whilst allowing repetition of the perennials to be a slightly wilder aesthetic intermingled together as a loose patterned community, with the hope of blurring the lines between a natural landscape and a North Vancouver front garden.

Our work explores livable landscapes that can connect humans with nature. Identifying the balance of the surrounding natural landscape, the architecture and the lifestyle of the people who reside there, our design process explores these complexities. Our installations include urban balcony gardens to expansive land sites, working collaboratively with our clients and thoughtful crafts people and professionals in order to reveal beautiful outdoor spaces. We are thoroughly grateful to be able to design, manage and maintain some truly beautiful, challenging and thought provoking gardens.
