The Black House

  • Landscape Design

The clients wanted to balance a required native plant palette in the backyard with their own vision in the front. Their unique triangular lot sat five feet below the road, so the design needed to ensure privacy without feeling overgrown.

To complement the home’s black facade, the landscape focused on structure, height, and texture. A beech hedge created a timeless privacy screen, while layered grasses and evergreen plants provided movement and year-round interest. Spring blooms softened the space, adding seasonal charm. In the backyard, native plants were thoughtfully blended with other selections to bridge the transition between spaces, creating a natural yet refined feel. Corten steel accents and a delicate fence added visual contrast, while the plant palette was chosen for beauty and easy maintenance, allowing the clients to enjoy their garden with minimal upkeep.
