Moss balls, a species of green algae typically purchased for home aquariums, are frequently sold in pet and plant stores. Zebra mussels, an invasive and prohibited species in Canada, were recently detected in moss balls sold in Washington and nearby states. Experts are concerned shipments to Canada may be contaminated.
Conservation Officer Services and the BC Aquatic Invasive Species Program are asking for your help in spreading the word and holding from sale any moss balls you may have.
