Jamie Aalbers, CNLA Growers Manager forwarded the following information, as advised by CFIA April 3.

The US border officials have been increasing inspections of shipments that include boxwood.  This is due to the federal order with respect to Box Tree Moth. It is recommended that:

  1. Plants included in the federal order (buxus, ilex, euonymus) are loaded on the back of the truck to make them easy to inspect, and unload if needed.
  2. Do not include any buxus that have symptoms that could be mistaken for disease such as Boxblight.  With the increased inspections for BTM, inspectors could also reject shipments for any plants exhibiting symptoms they think look like Boxblight pending lab identification (which can take up to 1 week).
