BCLNA Membership Types

Growers

Grower members of the BCLNA fall under the “Active” category, and are companies who run wholesale nursery and greenhouse operations. Their membership fees are calculated based on annual revenue, and grant them full access to CNLA’s cost-saving benefits and one vote at the Annual General Meeting.

Grower members gain access to a wide network of landscapers, retailers, and suppliers through the BCLNA, while the association advocates strongly on issues such as water access, pest management, and labour.

BCLNA sources and communicates funding programs for environmental and export programs, etc, to Growers so that our members are able to strengthen their operations.

The association is dedicated to raising the standard and image of professionalism in the industry by administering Pesticide Applicator Re-Certification and providing regular educational seminars and workshops that members can access at a discounted rate.

Grower members of the BCLNA also become part of a listserve service called PlantSourcer, which enables fellow BCLNA members to source plants directly from them with one simple email.

Landscapers

Landscaper members of the BCLNA fall under the “Active” category, and are companies who operate professional landscaping businesses across a variety of services. Their membership fees are calculated based on annual revenue, and grant them full access to CNLA’s cost-saving benefits and one vote at the Annual General Meeting.

Landscaper members gain access to a wide network of professionals, wholesalers, and suppliers through the BCLNA, while the association advocates strongly on issues such as the Gas-Powered Equipment Ban in Metro Vancouver, reducing the statute of limitations for litigation, and the invasive Japanese Beetle response.

BCLNA is also dedicated to raising the standards and image of professionalism in the landscape industry by providing BCLNA landscaper members certification opportunities through the Landscape Horticulture Certification Program (LHCP), and discounted educational workshops in subjects such as pruning, plant ID, and irrigation, which are eligible for CEUs.

BCLNA is proud to celebrate the high standards in the landscape industry through the prestigious annual BC Landscape Awards of Excellence. BCLNA member companies are able to enter projects in a multitude of categories, and even have the opportunity to move on to the National Awards of Landscape Excellence.

BCLNA also hosts a public facing web page that clients can submit Landscape Service Requests to. These requests are sent out to BCLNA Landscape members only, greatly increasing their business opportunities.

Landscaper members of the BCLNA also have access to a listserve service called PlantSoucer that allows them to source all of their plants by sending one email that goes out to hundreds of member nurseries all over BC.

Retailers

Retailer members of the BCLNA fall under the “Active” category, and are companies who operate public-facing garden centres. Their membership fees are calculated based on annual revenue, and grant them full access to CNLA’s cost-saving benefits and one vote at the Annual General Meeting.

Retailer members gain access to a wide network of growers, landscapers, and suppliers through the BCLNA, while the association advocates strongly on issues such as trade and pest management.

BCLNA retailer members are also placed on the Plant Something BC website, a public-facing directory of retail garden centres and landscapers, which encourages BC residents to shop locally and start planting.

Retail members of the BCLNA also have access to a listserve service called PlantSoucer that allows them to source all of their plants by sending one email that goes out to hundreds of member nurseries all over BC.

Suppliers

Supplier members of the BCLNA fall under the “Associate” category, and are companies who offer goods and/or services to members of the horticultural industry. Their membership fees are calculated based on annual revenue, and grant them full access to CNLA’s cost-saving benefits and one vote at the Annual General Meeting.

Suppliers are able to tap into the buying power of the membership through BCLNA’s Digital Buyer’s Guide, a directory of reputable businesses in good standing, as well as gaining access to a host of advertising, sponsorship, and networking opportunities to get directly in front of their future clients.

Horticulturists

Horticulturist members are individuals who work in, or are affiliated with the horticulture industry, such as a Parks Manager for a municipality or an educator at a horticultural school.

Horticulturists pay a flat membership fee annually, and gain access to discounted pricing on BCLNA educational events and networking opportunities, panel and speaking opportunities, and important industry updates.

Horticulturist members do not have access to CNLA’s cost-saving benefits or have voting privileges at the Annual General Meeting.

Students

Any individual who is currently enrolled in an educational horticultural program is eligible to join the BCLNA for FREE! An educator is required to sponsor the application.

Student members of the BCLNA get access to a host of benefits, such as discounted member pricing for educational workshops (many of which qualify for CEUs), access to networking opportunities with future employers through volunteering, subscription to BCLNA’s monthly industry Bulletin, and more!

Student members do not have access to CNLA’s cost-saving benefits or have voting privileges at the Annual General Meeting.

Interim Members

Interim members are any business that has been operating for less than two years. Their membership fees are calculated based on annual revenue as usual, but are only 50% of what regular active/associate BCLNA members pay.

Interim members have access to the same cost-savings benefits as all other paying BCLNA members, but do not get voting privileges at the Annual General Meeting until they have been in business longer than two years, and thus move into a regular active/associate membership category.

Satellite Members

Satellite members have a parent company that is already an active/associate member of the BCLNA. To qualify as a satellite member, the business must be under the same ownership as the parent company.

Satellite members are charged a flat annual fee and only have access to cost-savings benefits through their parent company. Satellite members are not granted voting privileges at the Annual General Meeting.

Out-of-Province Members

Any qualifying company outside the province of British Columbia can become an Out-of-Province member, providing that they are also a member of their own local association.

Out-of-Province members are charged a flat annual fee and do not have access to cost-savings benefits or voting privileges at the Annual General Meeting.

Alumni

Alumni members are previous members of the BCLNA who have since retired or left the industry but still wish to remain a part of the association.

Alumni members are charged a flat annual fee and do not have access to cost-savings benefits of voting prvileges at the Annual General Meeting.
